While warmer jackets and coats are being stored away by most, I like to keep my eye out for some great finds like this coat by Chicwish. This coat is perfect for wearing during the currently cooler-than-usual month of April, a time of the year I like to call an “in between season”.
The 6 Seasons in Calgary
Calgary experiences 2 extra seasons a year to the traditional Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer – the “In Between” seasons. These are transitional seasons that take place between Fall-Winter, and Winter-Spring and we are currently experiencing the latter. We Canadians are at the whim of Winter as it decides to start earlier or last longer than usual. It often also changes it’s mind in a moment’s notice during the middle of the day. Weather during this time can be fairly unpredictable which means dressing stylishly yet weather -appropriate can be a challenge.
What to wear usually means booties are worn a little longer before open toes and sandals; and wool jackets/cardigans are worn a little longer before shoulders, arms and legs are bared. We admire and long for the fashion trends already in stores and worn by fashionistas in their warmer climates. Yet these pieces are not quite suitable for us to wear in our neck of the woods. However there is a silver lining and it is the one for our wallets. By the time appropriate weather arrives for us, these pieces are already on sale and on clearance in stores (although possibly picked over). One of my recent finds is this Chicwish coat during their current spring sale.
Chicwish Prairie Grid Rabato Coat in White
Fell in love with this coat at first sight when I saw it all over social media however I wasn’t sure how it would look on me. I love everything about it but my only hesitation was I rarely wear anything belted at the waist and wasn’t sure how it would look unbelted and worn open. I was ready to resign to the fact this coat would look better on a hanger and than it would look on me. Nevertheless I decided to take a chance and am so happy with it I haven’t looked back since.
A Rare & Pleasant Surprise
Very rarely am I positively surprised when I try something I initially have doubts about. If I think it will look good on me, sometimes it looks bad on me. If I think it will look bad on me, it most definitely looks bad on me. Even as I unboxed this coat I was very skeptical. But not only until I put it on, snapped a few pictures and took a look at these photos was I pleasantly surprised! Trust me, I am my own worst critic when it comes to photos and I was really shocked how much I loved how this coat looked on me. I even loved how it looked when belted at the waist, another real shocker.
Whether it’s the grid pattern or symmetrical hemline, there’s just something about this jacket that is extremely flattering. The fabric is soft and a perfect weight for keeping me warm on an unordinary cool spring morning/evening; or not too warm on an unordinary warm Fall day/night. Perhaps the combination of all these features makes this one of my favourite and fabulous finds. And also a coat I will be wearing at least 2 out of the 6 seasons in Calgary!
